The Woman on Mars
Quite the largest thing in the universe
is the Mind of a woman
who lives on Mars
Why Mars?
Because of the quiet
and the endless expanse
of sand and rocks and valleys and cliffs
which, for her, taste like
dusty red sugar in her tea
The mind of the woman on Mars —
the largest thing in the universe —
enters the dreams of every sentient being
like tiny red balloons
though almost none of us
sense her presents
And so we live like koi,
nose to the stem of the lotus,
not moving as our thoughts
skitter like tiny water bugs
on the surface
eating-copulating-reproducing
at what must seem to the koi
the speed of light
